4 December 2009 in Blog

We are serving up some warm drinks at an art opening this weekend.  The art show is informal, open to everyone and free of charge (just like the coffee) so make sure to stop by.  There is nothing more cosy than sipping a warm drink on a cold winter day while looking at great art.

The opening is from kl 12-16, Dec 5. 2009 at Vikersund Gamle Radhus

Visual Menu

11 October 2009 in Blog

MenuI am a visual person and as such I decided to develop a visual menu to display when we cater events such as a bryllup, julebord, kunståpning, åpent-hus etc.  Many people who order espresso based drinks at such an event may be doing so for the first time.  Even the seasoned cafe crowd is often unsure what the difference between a macchiato and a cappuccino are.  With the new menu, even a coffee newbie will be able to see what we offer and make an informed decision about what to try.

Tim cupping in Brazil

Tim cupping in Brazil

Tim Wendelboe has been touring around Brasil for nearly two weeks and has a great write up on his experiences there, the coffee he tasted, the farming process in Brasil and the ethics of growing and selling coffee.  An interesting read.

I also found crazy coffees. Especially one from Piata that tasted like liquid molasses (the syrup gained from sugar cane). Another coffee I found in Mococa tasted like a washed Ethiopian Yirgacheffe with high citric acidity, coffee flowers and bergamoth in the aromas and delicate slim body. Unfortunately, this coffee was allready sold, but the molasses coffee will probably be in our shelves this winter.

Nordic Roaster Competition – Tim Wins

21 September 2009 in Blog

Nordic_Roaster_2007The Nordic Roaster Competition, a high class coffee roasting competition which is held in parallel to the Nordic Barista Cup, was recently held in Iceland.  A total of 10 teams entered from various Northern European countries and our coffee supplier Tim Wendelboe was awarded first place for a roast of Tekangu coffee from Kenya.  Second place was awarded to one of the largest specialty coffee roasters in Norway Solberg & Hansen.   I think you should be guaranteed a good brew if you step into most any coffee shop in Norway.

Caffeine effect in Men and Women

1 August 2009 in Blog

A recent study showed that caffeine had a greater effect in men than women.  But that both sexes reached the maximum effect of the caffeine after 45 minutes.  A nice thing to know if you are drinking caffeine to improve alertness.  One interesting thing, which I didn’t know, was how quickly it took effect.  In men, half of the maximum caffeine absorption in the blood was already reached after only a few minutes.
